Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) invites applicants for a full-time permanent Senior Manager, Budget and School Supports. The start date for the role will commence at a time to be determined, as early as August 1, at EIPS Central Administration building in Sherwood Park, at 683 Wye Road (in-office full-time).

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Financial Services, the Senior Manager, Budget and School Supports oversees the team responsible for developing the school board’s annual budget, managing fee policy and processes, and providing financial training and support to non-financial staff across all schools and departments.
This is a new position as a result of retirement and restructure within the Financial Services department.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Financial Services, the Senior Manager, Budget and School Supports oversees the team responsible for developing the school board’s annual budget, managing fee policy and processes, and providing financial training and support to non-financial staff across all schools and departments.
This is a new position as a result of retirement and restructure within the Financial Services department.
Summary Of Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor a team of four to five staff, including performance assessment and recruitment (as needed).
- Responsible for the annual budgeting operational process, including planning the budget schedule and workload timing, analysing impact of funding changes, and recommending budget process changes to the Director. Coordinate development and review of provincial budget schedules and internal governance reporting.
- Expert on the school board’s budgeting and fee software.
- Comply with and provide recommendations for changes to financial administrative procedures.
- Lead the annual fee process, including fee development across all schools, facilitating approval, charge-out, tracking and recording fees and year-end reconciliation and refund process.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining financial training strategy and schedule for school and department sites. Lead support strategies in varied task areas (internal controls, cash management, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with government policy and legislation relating to budget and fees.
- Collaborate with the Director, Financial Services to ensure revenue is calculated and recognized correctly.
- Overseeing financial coverage for school and departments when site-based financial positions are vacant.
- Support the Director, Financial Services in projecting financial results throughout the year.
EIPS Seeks Candidates Who Possess The Following
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
- Minimum seven years related experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience working with a budgeting process in a large ($100 million+ annual expenditures) non-profit or public sector organization.
- Financial experience in an education setting is considered an asset.
- Supervision experience is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, organization, prioritization and time management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work well as a team player.
- Strong critical thinking skills, including applying rational and creative responses when problem-solving.
- Excellent Excel skills, and the ability to remain current with contemporary and emerging technologies used by the division.
- 5 weeks accrued vacation.
