In the Senior Proposal Manager position, you will provide leadership on a variety of business development assignments, ranging from highly strategic proposals to smaller proposals and qualification statements. All members of our Canada-Northeast Geographic Sales Operations (GSO) team are expected to be self-starters who possess excellent oral and written communication skills; develop creative solutions to tackle challenges; are team players ready to support each other; and have a vested interest in the success of Jacobs.

Our Water market pursuits focus on comprehensive water solutions – from water suppl and treatment, to flood resilience, water resource recovery, reuse and conveyance – protecting communities, industries and the environment, giving them sustainable water resources to thrive.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Each day will present different activities and opportunities as you help position Jacobs for success in our sales efforts. Our Senior Proposal Managers will be responsible for the following general activities

  • Independently lead the End Game coordination and preparation of proposals of all sizes
  • Lead and/or support planning and development of presentations and interviews of all sizes
  • Provide heavy support to and/or take ownership of sections of major strategic opportunities working in conjunction with senior Sales staff
  • With no supervision, coordinate, write, edit/tailor, and perform research for non-technical proposal sections; ensure compliance; proactively identify, communicate, and mitigate potential issues/variances
  • Lead kick-off meetings and other milestone meetings, as appropriate
  • May participate in opportunity planning/Middle Game activities
  • Understand and apply business objectives, priorities, and sales strategy, especially as they relate to the proposal process
  • Work with opportunity team leadership to suggest teaming partners/subconsultants, as well as qualified Jacobs staff during kick-off/strategy sessions and organization chart development
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on, advocate for, and actively apply Sales Operations procedures, policies, protocols, and best practices, including standard file management and archiving procedures, as well as Branding Guidelines
  • Employ and populate/update (as appropriate) business development-related tools and databases
  • Understand company markets, partner/competitor/subconsultant firms, clients, and industry trends
  • Foster strong, mutually beneficial working relationships with Operations, other Sales Operations staff, Selling Units, and Sales Enablement teams both locally and across the network
  • May act as a group resource and trainer for Sales best practices, policies, and procedures
  • May coach, mentor, or provide oversight to junior staff within Sales Operations

In addition, Senior Proposal Managers are expected to demonstrate the following progressive skills in leadership, sales strategy, sales functions and processes, and Jacobs/industry acumen

Leadership

  • Coordinate/provide direction to graphic designers, document publishers, writers/editors, reprographics specialists, and other support staff, independently coordinate with and collect information from teaming partners and subconsultants
  • Manage self and proposal team, monitoring progress and adherence to proposal schedule
  • Solve issues independently; identify and implement creative solutions to challenges; escalate to leadership as necessary
  • Successfully guide, influence, and convince others with advanced communication and negotiation skills


Sales Strategy

  • Lead a variety of business development assignments, including highly strategic proposals; support large, strategic, complex efforts and/or take ownership of sections working in partnership with senior Sales Operations staff
  • Directly support the CAM and/or Account Strategist to refine and integrate opportunity strategy/win themes in proposal documents
  • Actively participate in debrief meetings on completed proposals and apply lessons learned to future efforts
  • Analyze complex issues and use sound judgment and experience to develop solutions for a wide range of activities and areas
  • Seek opportunities to enhance company image/brand on proposals and presentations
  • Possess understanding of objectives and services provided by the firm


Sales Functions And Processes

  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; possess effective active listening skills
  • Understand proposal time commitments and time management
  • Prioritize own and others’ work to meet proposal/team deliverables
  • Independently write and update project descriptions/summaries, success stories, and lessons learned, as well as resumes and other documents with little or no supervision
  • Possess knowledge of and ability to perform contributing skills (including document publishing, editing, and reprographic standards) supporting application of best practices
  • Offer suggestions to leadership for improvements/additions and lessons learned to streamline processes, procedures, and tools/databases
  • Prepare and ensure compliant and timely proposal deliverables, including managing proposal process and schedule, and meeting client requirements; communicate issues/variances
  • Be accountable for QA/QC check of assigned proposals and proposal sections for self and support staff

Here's what you'll need

  • BS/BA degree, or equivalent
  • At least eight (8) years of relevant experience or equivalent in proposal management/coordination, ideally in the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry and with demonstrated experience in the water/wastewater market
  • Be conversant in objectives and services provided
  • Understand how personal efforts help achieve Jacobs goals
  • Safeguard and implement company image/branding on all proposal assignments
  • Understand basic company risk evaluation processes
  • Follow Jacobs health/safety and ethical policies, procedures, and guidelines; and escalate issues as appropriate
