Role Summary

The Mobile & Consumer Platform team's mission is to create marketing-leading mobile applications and SDK’s that offer deep and seamless integration with Rivian and VW Group vehicles, and are the primary digital touchpoint across the customer lifecycle. We achieve that mission through open collaboration, thoughtful design, clean architecture, regular releases, proactive testing and monitoring, and intentional use of the latest technology. Underpinning this mission is the new RVT Consumer Platform, which will form the foundation for all mobile and consumer features for our partners. As a Senior Software Engineering Manager, you will be leading the Consumer Platform backend team in designing, building, testing, delivering, and supporting this world-class platform.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the technical strategy, aligning with broader product and company goals.
  • Lead the planning, prioritization, and execution of the technical roadmap, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality software.
  • Manage team capacity and allocate resources effectively across competing priorities and projects.
  • Communicate team progress, risks, and dependencies effectively to stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Advocate for the team's needs and technical priorities across the organization.
  • Collaborate with the technical leads to influence technical direction within the broader organization, and reinforce a positive engineering culture.
  • Oversee the technical design and architecture process, identify risks, and help guide the team to consensus.
  • Ensure good software practices are followed, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee incident response and post-mortem processes for owned services
  • Set clear goals and expectations of the engineers, conduct quarterly performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, identify growth opportunities, and manage performance concerns.
  • Contribute to budget management and headcount planning.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional experience in managing backend engineering teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent.
  • You have worked with: Go, TypeScript, and NodeJS.
  • You have led teams that have built large-scale event-driven platforms, preferably on AWS and Kubernetes.
  • You are comfortable leading multiple high-profile projects, including design, development, deployment, coordination, and communication.
  • You are comfortable leading Root Cause Analysis for complex incidents in high-pressure environments, and communicating to senior leadership.
  • You have managed teams using Agile and Scrum practices, and understand how best to apply those practices across large organizations.
  • Excellent command of English, written and spoken.

Nice To Have

  • Experience with connected Software Defined Vehicles.
  • Experience with NATS and/or Kafka messaging systems.
  • Experience with GraphQL and/or Protobuf.
  • Experience with DataDog, DataBricks, and monitoring tools.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for British Columbia Based Applicants: $174,200 - $217,800 CAD (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time and part-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Full Time Employee coverage is effective on the first day of employment. Part-Time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
