As the leader of our Diagnostics Point-of-Care (POC) R&D department, you will play a key role in advancing our industry leadership by driving innovation, placing clinical value at the forefront of our offerings and profitable growth in the marketplace. You will oversee the development of point of care IVD products and technologies, with a focus on Electrochemistry/Bloodgas analysis, Immunoassays, Urinalysis and related technologies. You will report into the President of Point-of-Care Diagnostics and lead a team of approximately 270 employees globally. This position will be based in the US or Canada. Preferred location is Walpole, MA.

The Annual Base Pay For This Position Is
Min $272,000 - Max $408,000
Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
If this is a commission eligible position the commission eligibility will be in accordance with the terms of the Company's plan. Commissions are based on individual performance and/or company performance.

Your Key Responsibilities As Head Of R&D POC
- Provide strategic direction: Develop and execute a comprehensive R&D strategy aligned with the company's vision and objectives for Point of Care diagnostics. Ensure clinical value and profitability are central to innovation and product development.
- Lead R&D activities: Manage a team of project managers, scientists, researchers, and engineers to drive research projects, technology development, and product innovation on Electrochemistry/Bloodgas analysis, Immunoassays, Urinalysis and related technologies.
- Research and innovation: Stay abreast of emerging trends, advancements, and regulatory requirements in POC Diagnostics. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the R&D team.
- Project leadership: Oversee the planning, execution, and timely completion of R&D projects, ensuring adherence to project goals, quality, budgets, and timelines.
- Lead sustaining engineering activities for our industry leading portfolio.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate closely with other business functions, including Product Management, Marketing, QA/RA/MA, and Operations, to align R&D efforts with product lifecycles, roadmaps, and marketing strategies. Foster seamless integration and collaboration across teams, introducing clear accountability and absolute transparency in cooperation with other business functions, encompassing product lifecycles and roadmaps, functional product marketing, and operational R&D activities.
- Intellectual property: Identify and protect intellectual property generated through R&D activities, including filing patents and maintaining a strong IP portfolio.
- Quality and compliance: Ensure R&D processes, methodologies, and documentation comply with relevant regulatory standards, such as FDA guidelines and ISO certifications.
- Talent development: Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing R&D team. Foster a culture of learning, collaboration, and scientific excellence.
- External collaborations: Establish and nurture strategic partnerships with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry stakeholders to leverage external expertise and resources.
- Budget management: Develop and manage the R&D budget, allocating resources efficiently to maximize productivity and achieve key milestones.
- M.S. / Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (e.g., chemistry, biochemistry, engineering) or equivalent industry experience.
- Proven track record of success in leading global R&D teams and driving innovation in the field of laboratory diagnostics - ideally in on Electrochemistry/Bloodgas analysis, Immunoassays, Urinalysis and related technologies.
- Strong knowledge of the POC environment, laboratory diagnostic technologies and methodologies, and regulatory requirements in key markets around the globe.
- Excellent presentation skills and the ability to effectively engage and inspire customers, partners and key stakeholders.
- Experience in project management and product development methodologies, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a proven track record of delivering on time and within budget.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate managers of diverse teams of scientists and engineers around the globe.
- Strong strategic thinking and structured problem-solving abilities, with a focus on translating scientific advancements and customer requirements into commercially viable products.
- Familiarity with quality management systems, global regulatory affairs, environmental and sustainability requirements, intellectual property management.
- Proven ability to develop, grow and maintain strong strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- A track record of publications, patents, or other scientific contributions is highly desirable.
