As a Senior Water Resources Engineer, you will join our Guelph, London, or Mississauga, Ontario office as part of our Eastern Surface Water Engineering team. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of water resources projects with a focus in restoration and river engineering projects. Specific responsibilities are as follows:

  • Provide technical leadership to stream restoration/stabilization projects based on channel processes and risk to critical infrastructure
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team on river process-related projects including subwatershed studies and environmental assessments
  • Provide project management and engineering support for surface water projects and designs, for both private and public clients. Projects may include hydraulic structures (e.g. outfalls, stormwater management facilities, weirs), bank protection, master drainage plans, flood assessment and mitigation.
  • Review and authorize design drawings associated with stream restoration/stabilization projects, including Issued for Tender/Construction drawing sets
  • Provide technical support and mentorship to junior and intermediate team members
  • Work with regulatory agencies and clients to address project-specific challenges
  • Build strong client relationships and liaise with stakeholders
  • Occasional travel within Ontario and to other Montrose locations to support projects or business development initiatives
  • Actively participate in Montrose strong Health and Safety culture
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of Montrose’s growing team and work types


What We Are Looking For

  • Undergraduate degree in Civil, Environmental or Water Resources Engineering
  • Licensed to practice as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is required
  • 10+ years of experience in water resources engineering, specifically related to the design, construction, and project management of watercourse restoration and water resources engineering projects
  • Experience with natural channel design concepts, surface water management, geomorphology, and hydraulic/hydrologic modeling in support of design and erosion/scour assessment
  • Experience assessing infrastructure using a practical risk-based approach and subsequently developing design solutions for required repair, protection and mitigation measures for impacted infrastructure
  • Knowledge and experience with HEC-RAS, PCSWM, and other hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software is a requirement
  • Knowledge of current regulations, permitting and legislation in Ontario
  • Ability to effectively manage projects and business development efforts of various sizes and complexity simultaneously
  • Strong ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and written
  • Possess a valid Class G driver’s license and a clean driving record.

This is a permanent position with a $102,000-$155,000, starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location.
