Reporting to the T&D Team Lead, you will be responsible for monitoring, controlling, and operating the Fort Hills Transmission and Distribution (T&D) assets, ensuring all interconnection requirements are met effectively and efficiently. You will lead day-to-day system operations, provide expert field support, collaborate with maintenance teams, and help drive operational excellence across the power system (13.8kV to 260kV). Your role will be critical in maintaining safe and reliable service while supporting field execution strategies. You will be responsible for issuing permits and electrical encroachments to support activities within Fort Hills T&D asset footprints, as well as collaborating with other business units as required to support ongoing activities within Fort Hills.

Suncor's operations include oil sands development, production and upgrading; offshore oil and gas; petroleum refining in Canada and the U.S.; and the company's Petro-Canada retail and wholesale distribution networks (including Canada's Electric Highway, a coast-to-coast network of fast-charging electric vehicle stations).

Minimum Requirements:
- 10 or more years of hands-on high voltage experience in a utility environment; heavy industrial or petrochemical experience is considered an asset
- Valid Alberta Journeyman Power Systems Electrician Certificate, or a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology preferred, but will accept an Electrical Engineering diploma or Journeyman Electrician Certificate with relevant experience
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, utility codes, complex switching procedures, and safe bonding and grounding practices
- Extensive understanding of maintenance, operations, and safety standards related to electrical transmission and distribution apparatus at 13.8kV to 260kV; ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and schematics
- Proficient and comfortable using computers and technology, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and other industry-related software, such as SAP
- Operate and monitor the Fort Hills power system in accordance with departmental operating procedures, AESO, and ATCO requirements
- Monitor, record, report, and log system events, changes, and disturbances accurately and efficiently using the OSI Monarch Energy Management System (SCADA), notify applicable business units or stakeholders as required
- Issue permits and electrical encroachment authorizations for work in and around Fort Hills Transmission and Distribution assets; perform field tours with stakeholders as needed to support these activities
- Prepare and safely execute planned or emergency switching procedures as required
- Collaborate with and support the maintenance team as needed, with the opportunity to assist in executing maintenance activities during scheduled outage periods
- You will work out of our Fort Hills Plant in Fort McMurray, Alberta
- The shift schedule is a 7 days on / 7 days off rotation (12-hour shifts)
- On call requirement on a rotating basis while on shift
- You will be on a Fly-In-Fly-Out Rotation from one of the approved hubs of Edmonton or Calgary or a Bus-In-Bus-Out of Fort McMurray
