Overview
The System Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team through all parts of the systems engineering lifecycle while aligning to overall business objectives, project deliverables, and customer expectations.
Systems engineering is a cross-functional discipline focused on designing, integrating, verifying, and managing complex systems throughout their life cycles. It aims to understand a system's needs and ensure its components meet these needs. This holistic approach considers all aspects, including hardware, software, users, processes, and the operational environment.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing system architectures, requirements, interfaces, integration, testing, and verification of complex hardware/software for intelligent transportation systems. You will also lead and mentor team members, handle planning and execution of development projects, and contribute to bid estimations. This position requires sound judgment and leadership skills. The focus is on technical execution, both as part of a team and through individually assigned tasks within the established design procedures, practices, and plans.

Responsibilities
- Subject matter expert in intelligent transportation solutions and validation activities through product development cycles
- Design, source, integrate, test and maintain OEM and COTS components within solutions
- Establishing testing requirements for new products based on electrical and software specifications
- Create, execute and support validation plans, field trials, and FAT plans from conception to manufacturing deployment
- Test system architecture, system diagramming, test software, hardware build, and validation into production of solutions.
- Creating actionable recommendations based upon design reviews and product specifications
- Lead the technical assessment process for project opportunities and provide responses to address technical gaps.
- Make data driven decisions about the product functionality and areas for improvement
- Proven domain knowledge and knowledge of products, systems, industry best practices, and applicable regulatory requirements on assigned projects
- Evaluate, analyze, and document all explicit and implicit system operational concepts through interaction with all stakeholders on assigned projects
- Identifies areas of uncertainty and risk when determining requirements
- Deliver documentation and training material to the project engineering and operations teams
- Provide support to project engineering and operations teams for deployment and technical issue escalation.
- Stay ahead of industry advancements by researching emerging tools, frameworks, and methodologies
- Work with suppliers to develop/deliver tailer technologies and scaled manufacturing
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
- 7+ years of experience as an engineering manager with a focus on systems and integration
- Practical experience designing and deploying complex systems with integrated hardware and software components
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills to evaluate complex systems and make data-driven decisions for optimal solutions.
- Experience selecting and evaluating OEM and COTS hardware and software products
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead development teams, driving technical excellence and fostering a collaborative environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
