Job Description

The Technical Operations Lead, Seaspan Energy is responsible for the maintenance and coordination of our LNG loading facility as well as operational planning of small scale LNG tankers owned by Seaspan Energy. The position is dynamic and requires working at a marine terminal and attending company vessels as required. Successful candidate will be required to contribute to the development and expansion of Seaspan Energy through participation in all aspects of the business. The Technical Operations Lead reports directly to the Senior Project Manager, Seaspan Energy.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 7700 Hopcott Road, Delta.

What You'll Do

  • Champions Seaspan’s core values and is excited for the opportunity to work in a high paced, operationally focused team.
  • Oversees and supports subcontracted facility operators, who are responsible for loading LNG from truck to ship
  • Assist in the development and administration of a training regime for facility operators and create/maintain pathway for Seaspan Energy to become a registered training provider with TSBC.
  • Ensuring efficient execution of the maintenance program and breakdown response plan to minimize downtime of the LNG loading facility.
  • Assists in refining operational processes to operate LNG loading facility efficiently and in synchrony with Seaspan Ferries.
  • Primary point of contact for all technical, operations and security matters of the LNG loading facility.
  • Liaises with terminal operator on day-to-day facility operational needs and berth availability.
  • Liaises with LNG provider for operational coordination of LNG loading and fulfills Seaspan Energy’s obligation under the LNG loading facility’s Gas Operating Permit.
  • Provides on-call support during LNG loading operations.
  • Coordinates vessel and terminal schedules as well as coordinating and facilitating joint plan of operations (JPO) meetings.
  • Works in unison with Ship Managers to support the delivery of equipment, stores and personnel to the vessels.
  • Routinely investigates opportunities for increasing efficiencies and profitability.
  • Performs additional duties as required including LNG equipment operation.
  • Attends LNG bunkering risk assessments.
  • Ability to travel as required and work outside traditional hours of work as required.
  • Ability to work on a flexible schedule as required by LNG loading operations.


What You'll Bring

  • Minimum Five (5) years of experience related to positions in Control Room, Pipeline Operations, Plant Operations, or Field Instrumentation.
  • 4 th class power engineering licence or mechanical/marine trade certificate.
  • LNG or Cryogenics or Liquefied gases experience is an asset.
  • Experience in the maritime transportation or terminal industry preferred.
  • Experience in operations and/or operational readiness.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and make effective, immediate decisions during emergency situations. This includes ensuring the safety of the public, contractors, and other employees.
  • Knowledge of the marine industry on the West Coast of North America and understanding of West Coast Port and Terminal Operations.
  • Communication, organization and supervisory skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work both alone and in a team environment.
  • Problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to handle emergency response effectively and efficiently. Able to lead and perform under high pressure.
  • Ability to operate terminal machinery (i.e. forklifts) considered an asset.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office – Word, Powerpoint and Excel.

The estimated salary for this position is $97,200 - $118,800. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
