Role

In this role, you will develop standards, methods and procedures to optimize the use and simplify the maintenance of our production and broadcasting systems/equipment. You will also lead the response to power outages or major technical incidents that fall outside the scope of routine maintenance, troubleshooting and restoration of production and broadcasting systems/equipment. This position operates in a cross-functional environment spanning networking, optics, electronics, computer systems, mechanics, machining, welding, hydraulics and pneumatics. Additionally, you will design, author, organize and deliver technical training courses and seminars.

Key Tasks

  • Develop and recommend work procedures, methods and standards to meet or exceed operational requirements for the optimal use and maintenance of production and broadcasting systems/equipment as well as the fabrication and machining of parts and tools; coordinate implementation with maintenance technicians.
  • Advise team members on installing, commissioning and operating production and broadcasting systems/equipment.
  • Plan, coordinate, assign, review and monitor project work performed by technicians reporting to you, providing guidance as needed.
  • Respond to power outages or major technical incidents that fall outside the scope of routine maintenance, troubleshooting and restoration of production and broadcasting systems/equipment.
  • Identify operational needs, draft quality control procedures, determine testing frequencies and assess performance results.
  • Evaluate system and equipment performance to ensure serviceability before purchase, after installation or during commissioning, and report your findings.
  • Design, author, organize and deliver technical training courses or seminars and guide workers in performing their duties.
  • Coordinate, review and assess the work of trainees and report on their progress.
  • Design, administer and grade technical competency tests for staff and job applicants, providing clear assessments of their skills.
  • Design, draft, catalogue and update technical documentation, reference manuals and training materials, ensuring they are readily available to the team.
  • Evaluate existing equipment and produce detailed reports regarding its maintenance or short- and long-term replacement cycles.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies to proactively resolve technical challenges.
  • Develop and document new technical modules and subsystems to modify or adapt existing equipment, address production gaps and meet specific routine production/broadcasting requirements.
  • Ensure all necessary maintenance components (including documentation and toolsets) are available when commissioning new systems/equipment, making proactive recommendations to support long-term maintenance.
  • Complete the appropriate forms and documents; share information verbally or in writing to ensure proper followup and to keep others informed.
  • Familiarize other employees with their duties and work environment.
  • Carry out, as needed, all or part of the duties of another job classification within an equivalent or lower salary group, as well as other related duties.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Community college diploma in electronics technology (audiovisual, telecommunications or computer systems option) or a related field.
  • Seven (7) years’ experience working with a wide variety of equipment in a complex, cross-functional technical environment.
