Job Profile
Under the general supervision of a facility supervisor, or delegate, the Cashier - Recreation Services provides front line customer service at the main desk at a Recreation Services facility, such as an indoor pool, outdoor pool, or fitness centre, including functions performed in support of building and program services. The Cashier - Recreation is primarily responsible for sales using a point-of-sale system, and a recreation management system to facilitate general admissions, membership services, Leisure Guide registrations, and facility rentals. This position is also responsible for handling cash and must adhere to purchase card industry compliance standards. Other front desk services may include responding to service requests from the public in person, over the phone, and/or via email, updating facility schedules and service disruption notices, and completing daily pin pad inspections.
The Cashier - Recreation Services is responsible for facility monitoring, responding to accidents/incidents directly or indirectly, liaising with other facility staff, the public, 911 operators, first responders, and emergency response teams as necessary. The Cashier - Recreation Services may be required to administer first aid, CPR, an AED, or Naloxone. This position will use a variety of communication devices, including but not limited to facility public announcement systems, walkie-talkies/radios, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Email, and telephone.
This position completes other administrative duties, such as cash reports, records management, wayfinding, and facility rental set up. This position promotes Recreation programs to patrons, such as the Recreation Services Fee Assistance Program, the Priceless Fun Guide, the Fit Together Pass Program, customer contests, and special events and campaigns such as National Health and Fitness Day. The Cashier - Recreation Services may participate in media promotions (live on-site, live in-studio, pre-recorded). This position works with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including clerical and facility staff, supervisors, Municipal Accommodations staff, third party organizations renting the facility, and the public.

As The Cashier - Recreation Services , You Will
- Act as the initial point of contact for building patrons.
- Facilitate customer service via the recreation management system and point-of-sales system.
- Complete and/or check applications for completeness and accuracy, compare with checklists to identify additional requirements, send form letters requesting or providing information.
- Sort, check, and process information from and to departmental databases and records according to standard procedures.
- Establish and maintain a safe and healthy work environment and assist with emergency response.
- Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Minimum 6 months experience with point-of-sales systems.
- Ability to use MS Office at the basic level, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams.
- Ability to use software/applications to maintain databases, input and generate reports, and maintain clear records (i.e. Computerized registration system, etc.)
- Ability to provide a safe environment for public and staff.
- Effective communication skills both oral and written in dealing with all levels of staff, community, media and the public in a respectful manner.
- Ability to communicate in other languages is considered an asset.
- Ability to establish and maintain respectful relationships.
