Fortis Mining, Engineering, & Manufacturing is growing, and we're on the lookout for highly motivated, safety-conscious Construction Miners, whose primary responsibility is performing a variety of tasks within a wide range of projects including underground construction, development mining, conventional mining, and mine rehabilitation. The tasks are varied and are subject to the type of mine site and the requirements of the specific project. The Construction Miner is required to adhere to company and mine site health and safety standards, always following safe work practices. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test will be required as a condition of employment.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Project assignment may include underground and/or surface work
  • Duties are specific to the mine site and project, including but not limited to:
    • Operation of underground equipment such as scoops, and skid steers
    • Use of torches to cut and burn
    • Operation of drills/jacklegs/stopers
    • Removal and installation of underground conveyor systems
    • Installation and rehab of structural components
    • Performing required maintenance and inspection on tools and equipment to ensure they operate in safe manner as per manufacturer specifications
    • Performing other onsite duties as required
  • Safe Work Practices
    • Adhere to all health and safety policy and safe work practices as required by the mine site and the company
  • Job Preparation
    • Assist with preparing for onsite project by gathering, loading, sorting equipment and materials
What You Bring To The Table

  • Mining experience preferred but not required
  • Construction and labour related experience is required
  • WHMIS and other safety-related training and certificates
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Manual dexterity required to use power and hand tools
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Physically fit and capable of working long hours
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Ability to work shift work
  • Focus on quality and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions, read, and interpret drawings
  • Ability to use judgment and apply discretion when making decisions
  • Ability to work alone and in a team environment
  • Strong time-management skills
  • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events
  • Possess a positive and professional attitude
