The City of Medicine Hat is looking for a Digital Marketing Specialist who thrives at the intersection of creativity, strategy, and analytics. In this role, you'll help bring community programs, events, and experiences to life through engaging digital campaigns that reach thousands of residents and visitors. How You'll Own It

  • Increase awareness and participation in community programs, events, and services through innovative digital marketing campaigns.
  • Strengthen audience engagement and grow online communities across social media, web, email, and digital advertising channels.
  • Analyze campaign, website, audience, and conversion data to optimize performance and inform future marketing strategies.
  • Execute and optimize digital marketing strategies that connect residents and visitors with arts, entertainment, heritage, and community initiatives.
  • Support membership growth, program registrations, event attendance, and revenue-generating initiatives through targeted digital marketing campaigns and conversion-focused strategies.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with internal teams, community partners, and external stakeholders to achieve shared goals.

A closer look at the role

As the Digital Marketing Specialist, you'll help bring the City's programs, events, and community experiences to life across a variety of digital channels. Your day may involve building paid social media campaigns, launching email marketing initiatives, developing landing pages or strategizing ways to reach new audiences. You'll work closely with marketing and communications colleagues to promote arts, entertainment, heritage, and community initiatives while ensuring messaging is timely, creative, and effective.

You'll also spend time analyzing campaign performance, website traffic, conversion activity, and audience behaviour to provide actionable recommendations that encourage participation and help shape future marketing strategies. Through ongoing testing, optimization, and reporting, you'll play a key role in strengthening the City's digital marketing effectiveness and maximizing return on marketing investment.

What You Bring

  • Creative thinking paired with strong strategic, analytical, and data-driven decision-making abilities.
  • Experience developing and optimizing digital advertising campaigns across paid social, search, display, and retargeting platforms.
  • Demonstrated understanding of customer journey mapping, and the skills required to optimize a marketing funnel using conversion-focused marketing strategies.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to interpret campaign, website and sales performance data to uncover insights and make informed recommendations.
  • Experience monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and using analytics to improve marketing outcomes.
  • Knowledge of SEO, AEO and GEO best practices to improve digital visibility.
  • Strong email marketing expertise, including audience segmentation, automation workflows, testing, and performance optimization.
  • Experience implementing and managing conversion tracking, pixels, tags, and retargeting strategies.
  • Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, collaborative relationships.
  • Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team culture.
  • A natural curiosity for digital trends, emerging technologies, and evolving marketing practices.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a recognized two (2) year diploma in Visual Communications, Graphic Art and Design, Marketing, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive marketing and promotions experience.
  • At least three (3) years of experience using digital marketing tools in a professional setting, including social media and email marketing tools, digital advertising platforms including Google Ads, Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Tag Manager, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Content Management Systems (CMS), analytics and campaign reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, implementing, monitoring, and optimizing digital marketing campaigns across multiple channels with a strong understanding of digital marketing strategies, audience engagement and campaign analytics.
  • Experience with social listening platforms and audience insight tools is considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
