The Director of Finance is a senior finance leadership role within Liebherr-Canada Ltd. and a key member of the Executive management team.
Reporting to the CFO, the Finance Director is responsible for leading all financial operations, accounting, controlling, financial planning, treasury, taxation, and governance activities across the Canadian organization.
As a strategic business partner to the CFO, Managing Board and business unit leaders, the Finance Director provides financial leadership and insight across Liebherr's diversified operations, including construction equipment, mining equipment, material handling, mobile and crawler cranes, earthmoving, maritime cranes, concrete, aerospace, transportation systems, service operations, parts distribution, rentals, and major projects.
The role ensures robust financial stewardship, compliance with Liebherr Group policies and reporting requirements, Canadian statutory obligations, and the maintenance of strong internal controls while supporting sustainable growth and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

Financial Leadership and Business Partnership
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO, Managing Board, and senior leadership team on financial and strategic matters.
  • Support the execution of Liebherr-Canada's business strategy through robust financial planning, business analysis, and performance management.
  • Partner with operational, service, sales, and divisional leaders to improve profitability, productivity, and capital efficiency.
  • Challenge and support business decisions through financial modelling, investment analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Promote a culture of financial accountability and performance management throughout the organization.

Financial Planning and Controlling
  • Lead the quarterly budgeting process, strategic planning cycle, rolling forecasts, and monthly business reviews.
  • Develop meaningful management reporting and KPI dashboards aligned with Group and local management requirements.
  • Analyze business performance across: Equipment Sales Customer Service Parts Operations Rental Fleet Operations Used and attachment sales Central service delivery and optimisation Major Projects and Contracts
  • Identify opportunities for margin improvement, productivity gains, and cost optimization.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations for capital expenditures, business investments, and growth initiatives.

Accounting, Reporting and Consolidation
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Lead financial close processes in accordance with Group accounting policies and Canadian financial reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate monthly and annual reporting submissions to Liebherr Group headquarters.
  • Oversee account reconciliations, fixed asset accounting, inventory accounting, revenue recognition, and financial statement preparation.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of all financial records and reporting processes.

Treasury, Cash Flow and Working Capital
  • Lead cash management, liquidity planning, and treasury activities.
  • Monitor working capital performance, including: Accounts receivable; Inventory management; Equipment fleet investments; Accounts payable.
  • Support financing initiatives and lead banking relationships.
  • Drive collection and credit management strategies to minimize credit risk and improve cash flow.
  • Monitor and mitigate foreign currency exposures and support Group treasury reporting.

Equipment, Inventory and Asset Management
  • Oversee financial controls related to inventory, equipment assets, rental fleet assets, and capital investments.
  • Partner with operations and warehousing teams to improve inventory accuracy, inventory turns, and asset utilization.
  • Monitor equipment lifecycle costs, fleet performance, depreciation strategies, and capital deployment.
  • Support inventory valuation reviews, physical inventories, and asset verification activities.
  • Ensure appropriate controls over major capital projects and equipment investments.

Tax, Compliance and Governance
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian federal and provincial tax requirements, including corporate income tax, GST/HST, payroll taxes, and transfer pricing requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with Liebherr Group financial policies, governance standards, and internal control requirements.
  • Lead external audits, tax audits, internal audits, and regulatory reviews.
  • Monitor financial risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Ensure adherence to delegated authority policies and approval controls.
  • Maintain and enhance Financial controls framework, audit and remediation tracking and Internal Control systems.
  • Lead ethics and compliance administration, Code of Conduct, conflicts of interest, Gifts and hospitality reporting and third party due diligence monitoring.
  • Lead enterprise Risk Management initiatives, business licences, annual returns, mandatory legal reporting and ESG audit compliance.
  • Collaborate and provide oversight for Trade Compliance topics such as export control, customs compliance governance, Economic sanctions and import/export process audits.
  • Lead and provide oversight for Insurance and Corporate risk programs.

Process Improvement and Digital Transformation
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives within finance and business processes.
  • Play a pivotal role in Group ERP system enhancements, roll-out and implementation.
  • Develop and lead a centralized enterprise level Project Management Office.
  • Act as a Steering member of the Business Management Systems and support quality and project management excellence
  • Drive optimization of ERP systems, business intelligence tools, reporting platforms, and automation initiatives.
  • Support digital transformation initiatives that enhance operational visibility and financial performance.
  • Act as a Steering member for IT and IS major projects.
  • Improve management reporting capabilities through data analytics and KPI development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to standardize and streamline business processes.

Leadership and Talent Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance organization.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and professional development plans.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support succession planning and talent development initiatives.
  • Promote strong partnerships between finance and operational teams across Canada.
  • Provide clear leadership and communication to the business on initiatives, enterprise projects and Group strategies which impact the operations.


Competencies
  • 10–15 years of progressive finance leadership experience
  • Experience within the following industries is preferred: Heavy equipment, Mining, Construction equipment, Manufacturing, Industrial products
  • Experience supporting multi-divisional organizations across multi-locations, in Distribution and service operations.
  • Experience working within a global matrix organization and reporting to an international parent company.
  • Proven leadership of finance teams within operationally complex businesses.
  • Strong experience with inventory-intensive and capital-intensive operations
