Role Purpose

The Director of Operations - Winnipeg shares responsibility for leading the branch in partnership with the Sales Director, growing and developing the team and customer offerings in the door and millwork industry. This is a hands-on leadership role, working alongside the team at times, maintaining intimate knowledge of the functions, and building a culture of respect and engagement while providing strategic thinking and analysis.

The Director will reflect visionary leadership as mentor, facilitator, and educator in strategic warehouse organization, production management, capacity planning, inventory control, and management, to most effectively meet the customer and organization's operational requirements.

SHIFT: Full-time Monday to Friday

Responsibilities

  • Foster a "Safety First" culture, with particular focus on safe stacking and forklift/pedestrian safety
  • Drive a "Whatever It Takes" mindset around customer needs, targeting 100% on-time order fulfillment with zero quality complaints
  • Develop employees to their highest level of skill through training, cross-department collaboration, communications and team building; give ongoing feedback so performance reviews hold no surprises
  • Own purchasing, warehouse, and inventory control, including cycle counting and physical inventory, for cost-effective procurement
  • Oversee shop production, capacity planning, and layout, plus accurate receiving and load scheduling; ensure material and production quality specs are met
  • Partner with the Director of Sales to build product, industry, and customer knowledge that strengthens relationships and service effectiveness
  • Develop SOPs and training for continuous improvement, efficiency, and waste elimination, including warehouse locations and mapping
  • Negotiate service agreements and develop relationships with industry partners: including logistics, material vendors, mechanical contractors, etc
  • Ensure timely, accurate picking, loading, and shipping of orders and inter-company transfers
  • Other duties as assigned.
