Job Overview
We are recruiting Labourers/SPARK Watch to join our team for projects in the Fort McMurray, Alberta area. As a Labourer, you will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of the site by performing physical tasks such as digging, lifting, loading, unloading, and assisting with general site cleanup. Candidates must have previous SPARK watch experience and be familiar with site access, safety protocols, and workforce management systems commonly used in the oil sands industry.
Responsibilities
- Assist with preparing the site before work begins, including clearing debris, setting up barriers, and organizing materials. Ensure the site remains clean and safe throughout the project.
- Load, unload, and transport materials and equipment to and from the worksite.
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
- Dig trenches, holes, or foundations and assist with other earthworks as required for construction projects, using hand tools or machinery under supervision.
- Operate basic hand tools (e.g., shovels, hammers, drills) and power tools, and assist in the operation of small machinery such as forklifts or skid steers under guidance.
- Ensure that all tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored at the end of each shift. Report any damage or malfunctioning equipment to supervisors.
- Perform general maintenance and repairs on site, including maintaining pathways, removing waste, and ensuring that temporary structures are in good condition.
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing
Requirements
- Previous SPARK experience is required. Candidates must be familiar with SPARK workforce management and site access processes within the oil sands industry.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods. The role may involve heavy lifting and strenuous activity.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools (e.g., shovels, hammers, drills) and the ability to use them safely. Experience with power tools or small machinery is considered an asset.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, supporting colleagues and working collaboratively to complete tasks in a timely and safe manner.
- Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment by following proper procedures for waste disposal and material handling.
- Valid driver's license required for travel to and from work sites.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, including cannabis.
