The Role
Responsibilities
For the 2026 Municipal Election, the machine operator reports to the site supervisor and is responsible for setting up and operating the optical scan vote tabulator and the accessible voting equipment in the voting place. One machine operator is assigned to each voting place on advance voting days and voting day. Potential hours of work are as follows:
Friday, October 16 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, October 17 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Monday, October 26 from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Successful candidates may be hired to work a maximum of two of the above dates.
Machine operators must attend a one-hour training session between September 28 and October 14, 2026. A handbook will be provided at the training that summarizes machine operator duties and the procedures to be followed before and during days of work.

What You'll Do...
Feeding ballots into the optical scan vote tabulator, ensuring they are successfully read and counted
Setting up and taking down the optical scan vote tabulator, ballot box and accessible voting equipment
Aiding voters when there is an error or warning message on the optical scan vote tabulator
Picking up and returning the optical scan vote tabulator, ballot box and accessible voting equipment to the Elections Office
Administering voting sessions using the accessible voting equipment
Other duties as assigned
To qualify, you'll need...
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Excellent problem solving skills
High school preferred
Previous Municipal Election Experience Preferred
Additional spoken languages considered an asset
Familiarity with electronic equipment and troubleshooting errors with electronic equipment
