Summary
Hecla Keno Hill is seeking an Underground Mine Trainer to lead hands on training of Underground lateral development and production miners. This position is responsible for the curriculum, delivery and certification of miners operating in a narrow vein hard rock mining environment. You will ensure that our “Safety 365” values are integrated into every mining cycle (drill, blast, muck, bolt, and backfill).

It comprises 242 square kilometres (km2) with numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past-producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce ~3 million ounces of silver in 2026.

Here’s What You Can Expect In This Role
Position Responsibilities
As leader of a mining crew – individually perform mining tasks associated with narrow vein mining (drill, load/blast, muck, bolt, backfill, hang utilities and vent, etc.).Provide on the job training, safety training, perform job observations as required, and review safe work practices with trainees and other mine employees.Train and develop employees to improve their capabilities as well as prepare them for opportunities for promotions, specifically for lateral drift mining.Training will have a primary focus to both jackleg and CMAC bolting.Complete daily paperwork that provides proper pass downs and training record keeping.Ensure employees have the tools, equipment, supplies, guidance, and support to succeed.Assist in creation and improvement of standard operating procedures (SOPs). Other duties may be assigned.You will help to promote a strong environmental culture, promoting and teaching environmentally friendly values and work practices.You will help to foster a strong safety culture, promoting and exemplifying safe work practices throughout the organization.
Departmental Responsibilities
Ensure production efficiencies by working with the mine supervisor, mine superintendent, and other key stakeholders to meet immediate and long-term goals that support underground production and development targets.Self-motivating and independent work ethic.Collaborative abilities with operators, geologists, shifters, trainers, and maintenance.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.5+ years of underground mining experience required.5+ years experience operating single boom jumbos, CMAC bolters, jack legs/stopers, scissor decks, and muckers required.Experience with “Train the Trainer” and proper attitude to want to train others preferred.Experience with narrow vein cut and fill mining in a fast-paced production setting preferred.Yukon Permanent First Line Supervisor Certificate or ability to obtain.Valid Yukon Blasting certificate or ability to obtain.Mine rescue certification highly regarded.

Work Environment
Employees will be regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including snow and ice, as well as extreme temperatures ranging from cold to warm. The work environment may involve contact with potentially hazardous wildlife, moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the use of explosives. There is also a risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration. Noise levels can occasionally be loud, depending on the task or location on site.
Work Location & Schedule
This is a fly-in fly-out position based at our Hecla Keno Hill mine site which is located 4 kms northeast of Keno City, Yukon Y0B 1J0. Operating on a rotational schedule of 14 days on and 14 days off, 12 hour shifts rotating days/nights (average of 42 hours per week). Camp accommodations and meals are provided while on site. All travel to and from the mine site is arranged through a designated travel agency and coordinated from approved flight hubs.
To ensure efficient travel logistics, we are primarily seeking candidates who reside in the Yukon, British Columbia, and Alberta, particularly near major transportation centers within these regions.
Compensation & Benefits
This position is eligible for an hourly bonus of up to $40 per hour.
