Job Summary
As part of the Sagen Canada Controllership team, the Accountant will report to the Sr. Accountant II and will play a key role in the monthly and quarterly close processes as well as assisting in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and related disclosures.

Job Summary
As part of the Sagen Canada Controllership team, the Accountant will report to the Sr. Accountant II and will play a key role in the monthly and quarterly close processes as well as assisting in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and related disclosures.
Responsibilities
- Involved in the monthly and quarterly close process including preparation of journal entries.
- Preparation of financial statement estimates and assumptions including but not limited to estimates and assumptions relating to insurance loss reserves, share-based compensation, and employee defined benefit plans.
- Preparation of various account reconciliations.
- Involved in IFRS financial statement preparation including responsibility for certain quarterly and annual disclosures for the financial statements and MD&A.
- Involvement in the preparation of a quarterly reporting template for the parent company.
- Support the Sr. Accountant in conducting technical research and analysis in respect of new transactions and changes in accounting standards.
- Annual technical analyses such as the goodwill impairment assessment.
- Participation in external audits including preparation of working papers for external auditors as required.
- Participation in internal audits including providing support for Sarbanes Oxley controls relating to financial reporting processes.
- Assistance with the annual GST / HST return preparation process.
- Make recommendation in area of responsibility for process improvements to maximize operational efficiency.
- Participation in special projects and responding to ad hoc requests, as required.
- University degree in commerce or a related field in combination with a CPA designation (or equivalent) or a designation that is in progress.
- 2-3 years of progressive experience in an accounting/finance department.
- Public Company reporting experience preferred.
- Insurance company or general financial services experience preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience with full cycle accounting including journal entries, account reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
- Demonstrated strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities with a sense of urgency and commitment to accuracy.
- Demonstrated team player with the ability to work independently with a willingness to provide support and integrating with the entire Controllership and Financial Planning & Analysis team when necessary.
- Strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates a clear commitment to the highest standards of professional and personal conduct.
- Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
