Duties
The Ottawa Catholic School Board acknowledges that the land on which our schools are located is the traditional unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishnabek Peoples. We extend our respect to all First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples for their valuable past and present contributions to this land. Reporting to the Manager of Maintenance and Operations, the Assistant Manager of Maintenance and Operations is responsible for Facilities Operations, Security Services, Caretaking Staffing, Labour Relations and performs other duties as assigned by the manager.Key Accountabilities:
Input and oversight into a section of the Operations budget (annually $3 million) including department security (annually $100,000.00)
Manage and approve expenditures and ensure they are in line with budgets
Lead and supervise a team of Planning and Facilities staff
Develop and determine custodial staffing needs to meet Board’s system wide custodial service needs
Departmental hiring including oversight of the unionized staffing process
Conduct meetings related to attendance management and progressive discipline
Provide leadership and guidance to Coordinators and Supervisors to assist them in managing their staff
Administer the applicable collective agreement and take part in the negotiation process as necessary
Participate in the grievance / arbitration process as required
Coordinate and oversee all aspects of facility security services and devices in conjunction with schools and facilities
Administer Board’s security systems, ensuring compliance with Board policies, procedures and standards as well as Government legal and regulatory requirements
Participate on various committees surrounding staff and student safety and labour relations
Required Qualifications
Diploma or degree in related field
Certification in Facilities Management
5-7 years of progressive related experience
3-5 years in a leadership or supervisory role
Strong active listening, verbal and written communication skills align with proven interpersonal skills
Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience preferably in a unionized environment
Outstanding problem solving, decision making and negotiation skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team with an aptitude for working in a collegial and collaborative environment
Ability to interpret department and Board policies and apply them in their day-to-day work
Demonstrated strong ability to build relationships and develop/maintain partnerships
Strong computer skills and working knowledge of the Google Suite of applications
Experience with Security Management software, Facility Management software, etc.
Approaches challenges creatively, commits to continuous improvement and has a can-do approach and persistence to get the job done
Valid drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle This is a full time (1.0 FTE) permanent position with an annual salary range of $95,214 - $120,9
