Introduction & Key Role Objectives
WJ Groundwater Canada is part of the WJ Group, headquartered in the UK and with operations across Europe, the Middle East, and the Philippines. WJ Groundwater is the leading construction dewatering and groundwater specialist in Ontario, and is expanding across Canada with current projects in BC and QC and pursuing opportunities nationwide. We have specialized plant and equipment that allows us to install custom dewatering and water treatment systems in various environments including from within tunnels and shafts and from the surface. Our current portfolio of projects covers everything from large infrastructure (heavy civil works) to residential developments, and small-scale dewatering solutions in hard-to-access areas.
The primary function of this position is to carry out the installation and maintenance of dewatering systems at our clients’ project sites. It is critical that our dewatering systems are installed and commissioned properly as they will be required to operate continuously for years.

Dewatering System Installation and Maintenance
Qualifications & Experience
This role is predominately site-based. Accessing our construction sites can be challenging, and it involves installing dewatering systems in both outdoor and indoor environments, including tunnels, adits, and shafts, which are classified as low to medium risk confined spaces. Comfort with working in all weather conditions, on heavy industrial construction sites, and within confined spaces is essential.
Standard working hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday, with occasional flexibility needed. Overtime may be required on evenings and weekends, and it can often be at short notice based on client demands.

Reports to West Coast Project Manager
Key Areas of Responsibility
Dewatering System Installation and Maintenance
- Lead the pursuit of work for WJ Canada in the dewatering sector, driving the development of technical capabilities and ensuring high standards in Dewatering system design and operation
- Unload, distribute and lay out ready for use equipment such as pumps, cables, pipes etc
- Carry out the development of wells using compressors and hoses
- Install pipes, pumps and other groundwater instruments
- Carry out routine inspections and follow maintenance schedules of dewatering installation on different sites or locations
- Carry out monitoring and report water levels and pump operation
- Ensure systems are operating as designed and standby equipment is ready for any contingencies
- Maintain communication with the Project Foreman/Project Manager, keeping them updated with tasks and the status of the system
- Work alongside and cooperating with other WJ site staff (e.g. Drillers) and subcontractors
- Carry out maintenance and monitoring duties as agreed with the Project Manager
- Maintain accurate, up to date and comprehensive records of work carried out for submission to the client
- Be responsible for own health and safety and that of colleagues, in accordance with current construction guidance and relevant legislation
Qualifications & Experience
- A motivated and hardworking individual with good verbal and written communication skills is essential
- Minimum 2 years of experience of construction experience
- The ability to demonstrate a strong knowledge of the operation, installation and maintenance of dewatering systems across various situations and equipment
- Experience in plumbing and piping, specifically in relation to dewatering systems
- Ability to operate heavy equipment and manually lift heavy objects
- Proven ability to demonstrate safety practices in all work activities
- Familiarity with local regulations related to water management and dewatering practices is an asset
- First Aid/CPR certification is a plus
- A valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle are required
