EPCOR Water Services (EWS) is hiring a full-time, permanent Reliability Engineer to join our Engineering & Technical Services team. This position is based out of our Rossdale Water Treatment Plant in Edmonton.


The Reliability Engineer is responsible for delivering engineering design services for water pipe assets, applying sound engineering principles across a range of capital programs, projects, and portfolios. This includes ensuring all designs meet required standards and that in-house designs are authenticated and delivered on time—typically within a 12-month timeframe.


This role involves close collaboration with internal stakeholders, including project management, asset management, planning, operations, and construction teams, to ensure alignment and successful project execution.

What you’d be responsible for


Under the direction of the Engineering Design Services Manager, the Reliability Engineer will be responsible for the following key accountabilities:


  • Contribute to the development and execution of Pipe Asset Engineering plans, ensuring alignment with EPCOR’s strategic direction and fostering strong cross-functional relationships.
  • Develop and deliver appropriate (3–12 month) engineering deliverables in support of the Pipe Asset Engineering business plan.
  • Identify and communicate budget requirements necessary for the successful implementation of assigned design programs.
  • Ensure high-quality outcomes by meeting performance metrics and delivering timely, standards-compliant designs.
  • Promote cross-functional collaboration to optimize project outcomes and ensure accountability across teams.
  • Develop, implement, and review processes to ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory standards, and risk mitigation practices.
  • Oversee and authenticate in-house designs for water pipe assets, including assigning work to engineering technologists.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers and design teams to ensure timely project completion.
  • Serve as the owner’s engineer for the review of consultant designs related to pipe assets.
  • Provide support for wastewater design projects as needed.
  • Offer technical expertise to other teams, including Engineering Support Services.


What’s required to be successful


You possess the following:

  • Education & Professional Designation
    • Completion of an Engineering Degree in a relevant field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
    • Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGA or eligible for registration.
      • If not currently registered, must obtain registration within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience & Technical Knowledge
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience in engineering and construction of municipal water infrastructure.
    • Strong knowledge of engineering principles and standard practices related to the design, planning, and construction of water infrastructure.
    • Proficient understanding of design and construction principles for water distribution and transmission systems.
    • The following are considered assets:
      • Familiarity with hydraulic modelling.
      • Experience with GIS.
      • Knowledge of wastewater infrastructure design and construction.

    • Ability to analyze data and produce clear, concise reports.
    • Willingness and ability to learn and become proficient in relevant computer applications.

This is a professional-level position that typically operates Monday to Friday, totaling 40 hours per week.
