Summary

The Utility Analyst is accountable for the integrity of utility data within information systems and for the fulfillment of client reporting and analytical obligations. In addition, the Analyst is also responsible for the on-going integrity of the utility data verification, reporting and analytical processes.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Utility Data Integrity

  • Works with the validation tracker and prepares utility bill and energy, cost, and consumption reports to review data accuracy and identify billing and energy consumption anomalies.
  • Liaises with accounts payable team and utility companies to verify reasons for anomalies and/or errors.
  • Identifies data input errors.
  • Provides guidance to accounts payable team in resolving utility billing issues.
  • Works with BGIS IMS team to ensure accuracy of utility data.


Utility Account Setup and Close

  • Coordinates activities for set-up and closing of utility accounts for client.
  • Ensures the account set-ups are validated and are payable by client (not covered in a lease payment).
  • Responds to client inquiries related to utility accounts.
  • Incorporates utility information into BGIS IMS and coordinates with lease provider.


Data Validation

  • Flag data entry errors for correction.
  • Detects possible billing errors for correction and follow-up with utility companies for necessary corrective action or recovery.
  • Exposes and reports anomalies or outliers in consumption or cost for further investigation and correction.


Utility Disconnections

  • Mitigates utility disconnections.
  • Other duties as assigned


Knowledge & Skills

  • Community college diploma, preferably in accounting
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ relevant work experience
  • Ability to identify data discrepancies and to verify reasons for anomalies along with strong attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Ability to extract and compile data into reports
  • Effective verbal communication skills for the purpose of data exchange and clarification
  • Computer proficiency in MS Excel along with ability to quickly learn proprietary information systems
  • Basic knowledge or exposure to utility pricing structures and utility units
  • Possesses a quality mindset and ability to adhere to quality standards


Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • Certified Measurement & Verification Professional from Association of Energy Engineers, an asset
